Observations, Experiences, Learning, and feelings during the Summer School
Summer School at HUST was a very eye-opening experience for me, this is my first time in China so everything around me is new, but thanks to our mentors they helped us move in and get started which was very nice. Initially there were a few culture shocks such as the squatting toilets which I had never seen and the huge change in climate compared to the United Kingdom.
I really enjoyed going on the trips to the research centres and healthcare buildings since it was something I am very much interested in. The culture classes we attended were extremely interesting too since they gave us insight Into Chinese history which explained a lot about Chinese culture, the activities were very entertaining, and the Chinese classes were taught very well. They began with us listening to some trending or classic Chinese songs which gave the environment a very nice mood, then we progressed to the actual studying where we learnt new vocabulary, how to form sentences using these new words and how to pronounce these sentences. One downside is, I do wish we had more Chinese language lessons so they could be at a slower pace since it was a bit difficult to memorise everything we’ve learnt in a couple of hours.

Labs in the university were enjoyable, it was a unique experience that a lot of students have never had before, it enabled us to have a hands-on experience, constructing, deconstructing and programming robots.
The lectures were nice since we were able to learn new information on how ai works and the uses of it such as the swarm intelligence lecture, degree of freedom lecture which taught us some new mechanical formulae and concepts and the autonomous driving lecture which showed us the future of transportation.
