September 6-12, Jure Ravnik, a visiting professor from the University of Maribor, Slovenia, taught a graduate course and gave an academic lecture at our school. He taught eight hours of Fluid Mechanics for Advanced Equipment in person at Junshan Campus. This was his third year teaching the course at HUST and the first time it was held in person at Junshan Campus. Thirty-eight graduate students from related fields attended.

The course began with basic concepts-the continuum hypothesis, fluid transport properties, and the derivation of the Navier-Stokes equations-before moving to practical methods for the full CFD workflow and multiscale turbulence simulation. Engineering examples of fluid flow in advanced equipment helped students strengthen their theoretical foundation and understand the complete CFD process from modeling to post-processing.

Professor Ravnik also delivered a lecture titled “Modeling of Transport Phenomena in Process and Environmental Engineering.” About 50 faculty members and students from related fields attended. His presentation, drawing on his research in transport phenomena, covered recent work on modeling of soft deformable micro-particles in dilute multiphase flow and simulation of heat and mass transfer throughout the full lyophilization cycle at industrial scale. The lecture broadened participants’ understanding of multiphase flow and numerical simulation of heat and mass transfer. Attendees discussed technical details such as refinement of Lagrangian point-particle frameworks and reduction of computational cost in industrial-scale simulation.

MSE will continue long-term cooperation with Professor Ravnik. This will involve improving Fluid Mechanics for Advanced Equipment by adapting cases to engineering practice at Junshan Campus to better fit our graduate training; promoting joint research on numerical simulation of transport phenomena and optimization of fluid performance in advanced equipment; and expanding academic exchange in these areas to give more faculty and students access to current research methods and engineering applications.
