On the morning of June 29, the opening ceremony together with the freshman orientation session of the 2026 "Discover at HUST - Artificial Intelligence & Robotics" International Summer School was successfully held in Room A304, East Building, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering. This summer school has enrolled 54 international students from prestigious overseas universities including RWTH Aachen University in Germany and the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. The participants come from 18 countries, namely Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Serbia, Russia, Singapore and more. Faculty members, project working group staff and volunteer team of the school attended the event, which was hosted by Ms. Zeng Zheng, international student counselor of our school.


The opening ceremony kicked off at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Xu Jianfeng, Vice Dean of the School, delivered a welcome speech, extending warm greetings to young scholars from all over the world. He introduced the school’s disciplinary foundations and research strengths in artificial intelligence and advanced robotics, wishing all participants can deepen their expertise, broaden their horizons during their studies at HUST, and build a bridge of friendship for China-foreign academic exchanges.
Dr. Cui Yan, Associate Professor and faculty representative, shared study advice for all international participants from the perspectives of academic learning and research practice. Ms. Yan Wei, Director of the Admissions and External Cooperation Office of the School of International Education, gave a detailed introduction to this university-level international exchange program and its relevant policies. At the end of the ceremony, Ms. Zeng officially announced the opening of the 2026 International Summer School.
During the freshman orientation session, Ms. Zeng introduced the core teaching faculty, student volunteer team and student groupings. She also elaborated on daily management rules covering summer school regulations, class attendance, practical arrangements, campus logistics support, safety guidelines and other related matters.

In the afternoon, all participants visited the History Museum of HUST and the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in the East No.1 Building of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering. Through these visits, students gained a better understanding of HUST’s founding mission, development journey and academic achievements.

Since the launch of this International Summer School, its high-quality curriculum system, world-class faculty and comprehensive scholarship have attracted outstanding young applicants from across the globe. Over the next two weeks, leveraging the school’s top-tier teaching and research platforms, international participants will take part in a diverse range of activities, including cutting-edge academic lectures, hands-on robotics innovation training, visits to state-of-the-art laboratories and leading industrial enterprises, Chinese traditional cultural experiences and urban cultural study tours.
