On May 7 and 19, HUST-MSE and RWTH Aachen University (hereinafter referred to as Aachen) signed a cooperation agreement for the 3+1+2 academic program. In December 2024, MSE established the Chinese-German International Talent Development Program in Intelligent Manufacturing, aiming at systematically enhancing student exchanges between HUST and renowned German universities. Building on this foundation, MSE, in collaboration with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the International Academy at Aachen, actively explored avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation, leading to the formalization of the 3+1+2 program following mutual review.
The agreement was first signed by Prof. Yin Zhouping, Dean of MSE, in Wuhan on May 7, and later by Cui Yan, Director of Chinese-German Exchange Affairs at MSE, during a meeting in Germany on May 19. The German delegation included Dr. Helmut Dinger, Dean of Aachen’s International Academy, and Professor Bernd Markert, Chair of the Institute of General Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The program, which has officially commenced this year, has a quota of 30 participants per year, with approximately one-third of the participants eligible for scholarships. It involves a structured pathway: students complete three years of undergraduate studies, language training, and professional courses at HUST. In their fourth year, they undertake nine months of specialized courses and research institute internships at Aachen, where they also complete their bachelor’s theses. Upon graduating from HUST and obtaining their bachelor’s degrees, students pursue a two-year master’s program at Aachen’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, earning a master’s degree from RWTH Aachen University.
This international partnership reinforces the Chinese-German International Talent Development Program in Intelligent Manufacturing, facilitating the joint cultivation of high-caliber professionals with global competitiveness.
