This year’s AI Robot International Summer School, hosted by Discover at HUST, has been truly amazing for me.

Most days started out with a fascinating academic lecture, introducing us to different topics such as swarm intelligence, autonomous driving agents and AI-supported healthcare. Offered by well-known and very kind professors, the lectures sparked a new interest in future human-robot design in me.

After the morning lecture, it was time for lunch – always a highlight! Trying the inexpensive and delicious canteen left me with a deep appreciation for Chinese cuisine. I especially recommend malatang – it’s absolutely delicious! The afternoon session allowed us to dive deeper into Chinese culture. Our kind teachers were very enthusiastic and engaged us greatly: we sang a well-known Chinese song together, made our own fan and tried some Chinese tea.

At the end of the week, we often visited a top Chinese tech company. Learning about the technology that is evolving here really left me stunned. The second week’s visit to Wuhan Huaweike Intelligent Technology is the most prominent of those on my mind. It showed us how advanced China’s companies already are: Humanoid Robots, stress-detecting sensors and car seats that keep you awake while simultaneously massaging you were a highlight for me.

Beyond academics, I met several wonderful people, who I’ll definitely keep in contact with. We bonded over beautiful experiences such as karaoke evenings, weekend trips to Chongqing and Guilin, as well as relaxed study sessions with a delicious iced coffee in hand.

This summer school has not only broadened my knowledge but also left me yearning for another visit to China. If you ever have the chance to join a summer school like this, you should absolutely try it!
