Mens Sana, Corpore Sano
As the title suggests, a healthy mind goes hand in hand with a healthy body. I truly believe in this saying. On one hand, my mind was enriched during the summer school through insightful lectures and fascinating cultural experiences.
On the other hand, I’ve never been this physically active before. HUST offers an impressive range of high-quality sports facilities—far beyond what I’m used to at my home university, Ghent University in Belgium. I was fortunate to try several of them.
Together with international and Chinese students, we played volleyball, basketball, football, and tennis. Our volunteer Yi Ke even dribbled circles around us on the basketball court! Through these shared activities, we bonded more closely with our volunteers and experienced the warmth and hospitality of the Chinese people. Even when language barriers existed, they melted away on the sports field—because sports truly bring people together.
Beyond campus, we explored other physical activities too. We played snooker with our volunteers, practiced archery, and even went bouldering—on the fifth floor of a shopping mall!
One weekend, we hiked Wudang Mountain to discover the origins of Tai Chi. After two hours of sweating and climbing more than 2,000 steps, we finally reached the Golden Temple at the summit—only to learn that there was also a cable car! Still, the journey is what matters most, not just the destination.

My life journey has brought me to China—and more specifically, to HUST. I couldn’t be happier, and I feel truly honoured to take part in the 2025 AI and Robotics Summer School.
